Five-year-old Shellianne played under a line of row-houses called a ‘Logie’. Her parents rented one of the end units of the building that stood on posts four feet high. In her game of pretending, she emulated her mother, caring for her imaginary husband and daughter. She cooked her sand in a coconut shell on the square hole of her concrete block stove.
A movement at the corner of her eyes caught her attention. Yellow strings fluttered in the wind a few yards away. She held on to her off-white plastic spoon and went over to investigate.
